“I was diagnosed with an acute anal fissure 4 years ago. With repeated visits to a well-known specialist and renowned leading world clinic, it became very evident to me that I was running out of options to cure my fissure. The clinic recommended surgery. I felt very unsettled about this and stopped making appointments for about one year. In the interim, my anal fissure became more painful. It was very difficult to have a bowel movement without opening the wound, and thus causing bleeding and severe pain for about 1-2 hours. I was running out of options until I met Magie. Immediately upon describing my condition to her, Magie placed me on a diet of no wheat, no dairy, and no red meat. At first, it was difficult for me to follow because I loved all of those food groups. “At the age of 36 I finally have a “cure” for living with severe hypoglycemia.

My experiences with high metabolism turned into hypoglycemia in late adolescence that I was aware of. The physical symptoms I experienced intensified over the past 3 years as I have been training for bike rides from Toronto to Montreal each summer. After my third ride to Montreal, I was desperate to find some way to relieve my symptoms that were exacerbated during heavy training and on these long rides. My goal is to continue to increase my training and I knew that in order to do this, I needed to get a handle on my symptoms which included but were not limited to: dizziness/light headed, irritability, severe hunger, cravings for sugar, and severe thirst. I was tested for diabetes often as I had many of the symptoms of diabetes. I have always had a strong sweet tooth and it has grown over the last 15 or so years to eat some chocolate every day.

I contacted Magie for a personal consult in September 2008. She came over to my house and made several recommendations after reviewing and discussing my health assessment and going through my kitchen pantry and fridge with me. I have not gone completely raw, but I have made significant changes in my diet and lifestyle habits and these have changed my life for the better. In a matter of 4 months, I no longer experience any of the symptoms that I did previously. I can honestly say that I have not felt this great in 20 years!

The main changes I have made are: eliminating refined sugar, which for me means avoiding all chocolates/deserts. I also removed caffeine, alcohol and I also no longer drink cow’s milk. I now eat foods new to me such as steel cut oats, medjool dates and rice milk. I believe that for my body, the biggest difference was eliminating refined sugar because for people with hypoglycemia, refined sugar goes into the bloodstream and spikes up your insulin like a drug and then you have these huge crashes.
